AVIF applies the AV1 video codec to still images. It is smaller than WebP and opens in current browsers. Newer websites and some camera apps use it. Older programs cannot open it. PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG.
PNG is what you need when a program cannot open AVIF, or when a print shop asks for a file it can read.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. PNG is a lossless format, so not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.
