PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG. Screenshots, logo and icon work, and exports from design tools produce it. JPG is the lossy compression format for photographs. It opens everywhere and cannot store a transparent background.
JPG has no transparency, so the transparent parts of the PNG are filled with white. If you need a transparent background, choose WebP or PNG instead.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. JPG is a lossy format, so the image is compressed once at quality 92. The difference is hard to see, but the result is not identical to the source, and the badge next to it says so. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.
