TIFF is the lossless format for print and scanning. It can hold several pages in one file, and browsers cannot open it. Scanners, print shops and Photoshop working files produce it. PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG.
A TIFF made for scanning or printing is large and no browser opens it. As PNG it is easy to send and upload.
