PNG is a lossless format. Every pixel is kept exactly and it stores transparency. Photographs come out far larger than JPG. Screenshots, logo and icon work, and exports from design tools produce it. BMP is the uncompressed Windows bitmap. The pixels are stored as they are, so files are large, and there is no transparency.
BMP is large because it is uncompressed, but Paint and older devices and programs open it without fail.
The file is opened and converted inside this browser and never sent to a server. BMP is a lossless format, so not one pixel changes. Camera metadata (EXIF) is not carried over, so no location data remains in the result. You can add several files at once.

What happens to a transparent background
BMP cannot store transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white. If you need a transparent background, choose PNG or WebP.
Where does my file go
